They're are really good for normal stuff, they're really fast, with 2 gigs of ram you'll be able to run even Aperture, and with Snow Leopard all the Intel-based macs will run 50% faster, trust me.
The MacBook pro is of course faster because is for pros, it will take advantage of Snow Leopard as well, but if you want to get one, wait for the 16th September, a lot rumors are telling us that Apple is gonna release a new model on that date. :)

this thing is pointless because their displays are so expensive, it pays to buy the imac instead. its faster and better.

ok ill give you that, but its not powerful for the price either. for hundreds of dollars less, i can get a dell intel core 2 duo 2.4 ghz with 320 gb hard drive and vista premium with 2gb ram. it cost 279$. that was without a monitor too. this costs 600 and has 1.6 ghz and like an 80 gb hard drive. its just not worth it.

Well you're not thinking with Apple logic.
See that little silver Apple logo on the one side of it? That makes up for half of the computer's price tag.
like i said i have ... ( 2 weeks ago by coolerdude44)
like i said i have a macbook pro which is absolutely worth the $2000 price tag because it is so powerful and state of the art. the mac mini is none of these things, it should cost $100.
What I meant was ... ( 2 weeks ago by LuckyNibb)
What I meant was that it runs Apple's operating system, I think that Apple considers the legal compatibility with OSX to be part of what you're paying for.
Anyway you can run it with any monitor, so if I already have a desktop computer then the mac mini is a good option if I want to own a mac. Besides, the idea isn't just to have a cheap desktop, it's to have a cheap Macintosh. There are cheaper and better alternatives for a MacBook pro too, but they don't run OSX so it's just not the same.
dude, you could run ... ( 2 weeks ago by coolerdude44)
dude, you could run mac on any computer, they cant find out really. anyway, i actually built a simillar laptop, a dell xps, and it came out to $2400 with simillar specs.
i think its ridiculous to pay extra just to use mac, when you can just pirate a copy and run it on any computer if you want it that bad.
Hmm, I've seen ... ( 2 weeks ago by LuckyNibb)
Hmm, I've seen tutorials on how to make Mac OSX run on non-Apple computers, but it doesn't seem to run very smoothly. Even so, Apple can't base their prices on what people "could" do to run their software.
I don't really think just 'being' a Mac should make it worth more either, if the Mac Mini was worth a lot less I'd probably look into getting one, though I do admire Apple's effort to make a more affordable computer.

I have worked with Microsoft pc's for the last 8 years and i moved to Apple about 2 months ago. Yes they are more expensive and thats why i have not had one before but i finally bought a Mac Mini. I was so impressed i retired my top spec windows pc and replaced it with an Imac. In my opinion Apple computers are expensive yes. But they blow the competition out of the water so well worth the money
