The ideas he is expressing are interesting, but it is amusing to see him wrap his own exquisite language skills (which are based upon sight and sound and heart, which trumps the wild vicious octopi language method of only sight) around a perspective that seems obsessed upon visual beauty and try to merge that nice but one dimensional aspect with the aspect of human language, funny really.

HELL YEAH...that's very likely. I am so excited to find me ahold of some of this stuff he speaks of. Man would I love to experience that stuff. I'm far enough from my ego death experience that I could go for another trauma about now. Bring it on!!! I'm tired of reading and hearing all about this state of mind. not in the sense the mckenna is talking about. writing is a REPRESENTATION of sounds produced by the mouth. Mckenna is talking about language based solely on visual light.

sure, concepts that represent spoken word. He's talking about something radically different. He's speaking of a language that expresses itself solely in the form of visible light, which would drastically change our views of the world if we ever learned to do that. after all, the world is made of language.

when we were born the world is just a chaotic confusion. eventually we learn to transform reality and ideas into linguistic objects... language. without language, we wouldn't have much of a concept of reality at all, does that make sense?

who knows what animals think or undesrtand about reality? see no reason to assume that language is the basis of all thought. In fact, all thoughts take place in an instant or clear comprehension, and the relatively slow language-brain has to try to keep up, sometimes failing to accurately express even the most simple, lizard-brain concepts.

It's interesting that he makes reference to mind interface, but limits the implications to people having the ability to express psychedelically induced mental imagery through a virtual reality mind interface. This would be just one of many social and cultural possibilities arising from this hyphothetical technology.

but to play the "other guy" the octopi display the colors based on moods and feelings and they are "visible" without verbal communication. But don't we already do something similar with body language and facial expressions ?
