Protecting the border from raiders has nothing to do with open or closed borders. It has to do with catching marauders. I don't know the reasons why FDR and Eisenhower deported millions of illegals. But I'm not surprised it happened during the run up to WWII and during the Cold War. But again that's my point. BTW, by citing only two instances of USA kicking out Mexcians, do you concede that it was open during all the other decades?

I concede that never before in the history of America have we allowed our nation to be invaded by 20 million illegal aliens predominantly from Central America where they do not recognize US territorial claims on the SW US. Time for illegal aliens to go and any libertarian that does not have the stomach for it needs to get out of the way.

What world do you live in? We haven't been invaded by anyone. People come here to work. Most return to their native countries. EVERYONE recognizes US territorial claims. It's a question of force, not right or wrong. And get out of the way of what? Rampant police intrusions. Mass arrests. An excuse for the Federal gov't to investigate us all. Liberty doesn't stand a chance in the USA. We've grown too fond of using the gov't to resolve "problems." In a sick way, I hope you get what you ask for.

I am against open borders and illegal immigration because the Elite are using them to financially drain the American Middle Class out of existence. When the US and European Middle Class is gone who is left in the World to oppose the constant wars and political persecutions caused by the Elite. The poor immigrants can't join us in opposing the wars, gun control and fighting for labor standards they'd be sent home. I would like to help them but as it stands now they have us all devided.

I would prefered to have the borders open, but when you have millions of people who don't respect our laws, and cross those borders to come to this country to abuse our system, then we should do something about it. As the matter of fact, I don't think that it is enough just to close the borders. The "anchor baby" scam should be stopped. Children born to illegal should not be Americans.

Gainers: 1) Those who come to work. 2) Those who employ them. I don't see how the millions who come here abuse our system. We have open, tax supported schooling to which they send their children. Is that an example of what you mean by abuse? I don't see "anchor baby" as a scam. As far as I know, it's been USA law since the beginning of this country. If your ancestors came here more than about 100 years ago, it's how they became Americans. Why is it now a scam?

Further, is there not a danger in creating large groups of official, legal second class citizens? I don't think we've seen that since slavery's 3/5 Compromise. Personally I see it as a dangeous slippery slope. The illegal problems I see are local communities having to deal with increased spending for education, emergency room health care, some small amount of crime, etc. Beyond those sorts of things I don't see a huge problem.

The Mexican-American War ended in 1848. From then until the early 1900's the border was open. People from both countries freely moved across it. The hysteria about aliens came up as Anglo Americans posed the racial/ethnic theory that only certain groups of people could truly become Americans. Hispanics, Italians, Irish, East Europeans, Catholics, Jews, Blacks — I'm sure I'm leaving some out — were deemed unconvertible to Americanism and therefore undesirable.

cont'.....I wouldn't mind Mexicans coming here "legally" so much if they would keep their family size to 1 or 2 kids per family but they don't seem to have a concept over-population and it's impact on resources. If you have Mexican friends try asking them about the impact of over-population on resources and watch the blank expression on their faces. Here's my reason for not wanting illegals from Mexico (although I bet my reason differs from conservative's reasons) it's over-population. I think this world has forgotten that over-population is eating our resources gas, trees, water, etc. Mexico is generally a Catholic country and they are encourage to "create" as many kids as they can. They have over-populated in their country which means less jobs for them there and now they mean to do the same to our country.

Most in the Mexican school system are taught
that the USA has stolen their land,(Aztlan).
Then they cross our borders.
Put two and two together.
Then they don't just want to come from Mexico,
they want to bring Mexico here.
Borders regions are designated to make people of other nations aware of the perimiter.
They are not to cross without consent.
This is done for the same reason that you

i'm all for immigration.(legal). we have plenty of land.abundant resourses.more people(taxpayers)=more product demand=jobs= more production=higher standard of living for everyone.the problem is like ron said, the welfare state and the fact that most immigration is done illegally.they don't pay taxes and then use the benefits that the tax payer funds.they are not screened for english literacy, or infectious disease.everybody works and pays taxes.everybody is happy. no disease and no terrorists.
