| Ants have no self awareness. Does that make them not free? They act upon instinct, everything they do is instinctive. Whos to say we are any different.You speak as if we are divine creatures that have more of a purpose then any other living thing.How do you know that every thought and action you make is not just instinctive.We make desicions based on past experiences.I know were different then ants,humans strive to be more than we are which ants cannot. For humans,learning is a survival tactic. |

| yes, the absence of self awarness makes them slave because they have no ability to choose what is and isnt good for them, if you disagree, then go give yourself a labotomy or put an icepick through your skull and then try to survive by making rational choices, see my point? i dont know what you mean by "divine" but yes i belive i have more purpose than a slug because i am concious of my actions and free to choose the actions that i belive to benefit me the most. |

| Is it wrong to not want what society wants from you? The song talks about going against what society demands from you. Happiness is judged by society when they say what makes you happy is wrong. Like segregation of the mind and desires. Some people believe to live is to suffer. And some believe that happiness is the cheese on a stick just infront of you to keep you going but will never achieve it. We all want to be happy but a human characteristic is to be never be satisfied. |

| also, i know that every thought and action i make is not just instinctive because my thoughts and actions are guided by reason by means of my thinking mind and validated by objective reality. you stated yourself that me make decisions based on past experiences, that process is not instinctive, it is the product of a reasoning/rational mind, an ant certainly can form new methods of doing things based on past experiences, if he could he would never build his bed on a freshly mowed lawn. |

Ants dont have the capacity for choice.. i know what you mean by freedom of choice.But there are so many layers to our decisions,we try to make decisions that will benefit us,but i know sometimes we unintentionally make harmful decisions.happiness is like a drug, and like drug addicts sometimes we make what we think is a good decision and ends up blowing up in our faces.That pursuit of happiness is instinctive to humans. would anyone choose to be misserable? |

| any human who is guided by reason/rationality is not slave to anything, if you choose to be a slave to a desire( if by desire you mean that which brings you pleasure) to you create your own prison, pleasure is necessary to humans because it validates and is a reward for achievment. youre right, we do make bad decisions sometimes, but by use of reason and learning, we are free to correct our errors, which ants cannot do. |
