The only thing that SUCKS TO GET A PS3 as a BLU RAY PLAYER is that the PS3 doesnt have a INFRA RED Port, IF IT DID then my HARMONY REMOTE CONTROL WILL BE ABLE TO CONTROL IT!
It sucks that the 360 is compatible the harmony but not the PS3 unless u get some 3rd party devices like a blue tooth to IR CONVERTER

Check this out guys.... i have a pc but always wish i could get a mac..... i dont have a mac because they cost alot more for a little difference just cosmetics really, i bought a ps3 (which cost more then a 360) because the facts are that a ps3 has more features and is worth it

It seems that people forgot these systems are mainly made FOR GAMES, not movies. Who cares how they stand up movie wise? Buy a stand alone Blu Ray player. I love Sony's electronic products, but I chose a 360 for my gaming console, the online play is far better than the PS3's.

Remember that to get more then Stereo sound you require a TOSLINK. Yes a digital cable as the component cable support only offers Stereo.
So either HDMI or an seperate TOS link...it isn't as if the Playstation has 8 connections on the back for audio cables...

Erm well ...yes the PS3 is worth it.
But a Mac comes with allot of software, I mean with windows you don't even have a basic DVD playback software package. No they have to add it...either that or you buy it on your own.
On the Mac there is allot of software you get with it! Mac is expensive? I agree! But if you see what kind of software you get with it..it isn't a bad deal!

I got my first Bluray today and was kind of disappointed. I don't doubt that if I had 1080p and 5.1 surround sound it would looking amazing but on 720p it looks just like an upscaled DVD. From close it looks ok but from 8-10 feet away it looks like an upscaled DVD. The movie also had black bars so maybe that might be a factor. I'm making sure my next BD is fullscreen so I can actually see a difference.

yeah, any best buy will sell them, hdmi video cables are quite pricy, and digital audio and component video cables cost almost as much. the av jacks come with every ps3

Meaning that you don't require triple shielded, gold plated, oxy crimped, smithen by elves at full moon cables.
You don't need a monster cable..cheaper cables do just fine to!

The ps3 will upconvert yes the quality of it depends on the source. But that counts for everything!
