I'm a recent fan of Tim Ferriss' book and I think too many people get hung up on 4 hour number as a criticism. What he really is driving at is to free up your time for YOU and accomplish other things in your life rather than trading time for another entity. EVERYONE is self employed as far as it is your choice what you do with your time and how much you are willing to accept in return for that time. Minimize the amount of time spent on the process and concentrate on what makes you thrive.

Even charity, if that is what drives someone, you can make more of a difference by having the means to build soup kitchens rather than feel good by donating time handing out soup. Motorcycle racing and tango aren't the only possibiliteis. They are whatever you set your mind to that makes life worth living to the fullest!

A lot of great points. At the beginning (and toward the end), you raised the issue of whether a 4-hour workweek was sustainable in terms of passion... that all the travel and tango dancing in the world would eventually become unfulfilling. I have my own list of dreamlines, and while I can't imagine becoming bored by them, I only seek the opportunity to prove that you're right!

I can't believe they put this book together. I used to own a franchise and work 80 hour work week. 3.5 years ago I made a change in my career and now own an internet business. I was practicing the 4-hour work week principles before I even read it
The great thing ... ( 7 months ago by zdigiovanni)
The great thing about the 4HWW lifestyle is that it is a new way of thinking. Why are we chasing the huge paycheck and selling out? Are you really contributing something to society? When you get to the point where you don't have to be concerned with where your income is coming from, you are able to give back and make the world a better place. It doesn't matter if you agree with Tim on everything or not. You can still take a few good ideas (or more) from his book to improve their lives.
Your perspective ... ( 6 months ago by JonChase)
Your perspective could be your no 1 limitation. If you are doing what you are passionate about then the word 'work' becomes meaningless. Personally I never work. Life's a big game and I play. People give me money to play as well. Hope you get there soon. ;-)

hey thx for posting this gavin. I find the whole idea very good, in fact too good to be true. What scares me about these methods is that those successful using them run businesses which seem little more than pyramid schemes. Is that at all true? If so, how could one be proud of themselves doing that - surely you should be bringing something into the world - creating & producing?

Or your fullest. People need to remember that what is fulfilling to one person isn't fulfilling to the next. So there is nothing really unfulfilling. It depends on the person.

I'd love to see a version of this philosophy for those in the service sector - from doctors to pianists to waitresses. Are there ways for those of us who's presence is required to streamline our days? As a performing musician, I love the creative challenge of these ideas, and want to put them to work however I can in my own life.

this is a B.S. philosophy for ppl in first world countries. You can work 4hrs and make more because you outsource to ppl who have a 160 hr work week and get paid peanuts doing it. Good job!
