I've always debated ... ( 1 year ago by pokeeto2)
I've always debated wether to sell it or not since I havve the Core 2 Duo iMac & the 1.2GHz iBook. Since the most I would get for it is around $320. & I piad around $828 total back in Jan 2005, +++ the 1 GB ram upgarde I did. Total $900.
I'm settled in keeping it as a backup system instead of giving it away, and I will install Leopard on it. ( Super Drive DVD RW , 80GB HD, 1GB RAM, it's still a decent setup.

What does that thing do, sorry not that good with Apple products, they sell so many these days I can't keep up with what all of them are, and what they do. So please explain what this does, really like to know, thanks.

You have a lot to know. It's a desktop computer from apple. The thing in the bottom is a base I bought to elevate it a little. The thing on top is an iPod Dock.
They achieved this size because it uses similer hardware from their laptops. This is an old 2005 model. They now make em with remotes, media software, and compatability for windows XP or vista. Though these aren't made for serious gaming because of integrated graphics, but they have a killer Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.

This is a first Gen Mini with Power PC, As far as I know, you can't change the video card. In this model it's not integrated, but you can't upgrade it.
The Current line of Mini with Intel processors, have Intel GMA 950 Integrated Graphics taking away 64 mbs of Ram. They say it's better than the ATI Radeon 9200 with 32mbs of it's own VRAM. Rumor has it, that apple is going to overhaul the Mac Mini and release a succesor by December or January. Surely thay might overhaul the graphics.

Would also be good to keep handy for a media center. Get a wireless keyboard/mouse and hook it up to an HDTV. Would work great. Muuuch better then a crappy Apple TV. =]
I'm thinking of buying a Mac Mini for a media center later.

Fantastic video, nice fast machine too. I was originally skeptical about the Mac Mini... and while I still think they are a little overpriced, they are probably the best Compact PC you can get really... nice one. I might get one soon.

Stick to the Intel Model. And wait until Macworld passes this month because they might update it. I still use this old G4 kinda like a backup server. I installed Leopard on it then enabled screen sharing and file sharing. So anything I I have on my Core 2 Duo iMac, I wirelessly transfer over my network all my Music, Video, and pictures to the Mini G4. So I'm still making good use of it. I keep it sleeping beside my iMac.

I accidentally removed a comment. This was a comment about the New Mac Mac Mini's Video plug. All Mac Mini use a regular DVI PORT which is found on most LCD/Plasma displays. For those o you without DVI or is still using a CRT Monitor, the Mac Mini comes supplied with a small VGA/DVI adapter. It's a small adapter you plug into the DVI port and it converts the connection to an analog VGA port which is still found on Most new flat Panel displays and all older CRT Display. Connects to all displays

I have 10.4.11, as I really have no use for Leopard. The only real thing I would have a use for and its only one app is: time machine. The rest of it, for what I use my mac for, would be totally useless to me.
Plus, it would be a PAIN to convert all my software over to run it, as most of my software and apps I did not purchase - and would require leopard code in order for them to work.
I will probably make the jump to leopard when 10.5.5 comes out.

It should, this 1.25GHz runs iTunes just fine. But really, if you want to stay up to date with Apple's OS 10 operating systems, I recommend you getting an Intel Based Mac Mini ( Core Duo or Core 2 Duo).
So far, it's been said Mac OS 10.5 Leopard is the last operating system that will support PPC processor. And Leopard is already on it's mid-life cycle ( 10.5.5) .
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, so far has been said to only support Intel Macs. Thats unless u're getting a really good deal.

I didn't upgrade the Superdrive myself. When I ordered the Mini around February ( When it was first announced), I had it customized on Apples Website.) I ordered the Superdrive Option which @ the time was $100 I think. I also ordered the larger HDD which at the time had a Max of 80GB.
Only thing I upgraded myself was the Ram which was very easy. I didn't get a look @ how complicated removing the Optical drive was but this computer doesn't have many parts inside, it's just small & tight.
