She is adorable and very smart, but why teach a child sign language that does not need it?
Quick question... ... ( 1 month ago by s2164059)
Quick question...should the children know the meaning of the words first? What I'm trying to ask is if they just relate the hand jesture to the word "proud" or if they actually understand what the word means and use it in context?

Thank you so much for showing how sign language is a key to communicating with babies, hearing or deaf. There is a strong philosophy out there that deaf babies should not learn sign language but instead to learn to lip read and "listen." Please show support for deaf babies to learn sign language too. Thanks!

I don't think the child needs to know the word before learning the sign. Sometimes the signs actually help the child learn the meaning of the word. If you think of the word 'shy', whey you sign 'shy' it looks like what shy is... it helps the child understand the meaning :-)

Thank you! ASL is the 3rd most used language in the United States so why not use it? It has huge benefits as well and helps to reduce the child's frustration because they are able to easily communicate her needs to her parents.

Thank you for your comment. I support the use of sign language with all children! There is a woman by the name of Amy Cohen Efron who talks about this exact issue, that people think it is cute to sign with hearing babies but that Deaf babies are forced to lip read and use other modes of communication. I'm going to send you the link to her v-log on this topic. If anyone else is reading this comment please google 'Greatest Irony' to find this v-log or look at my friends on my website for it.

Thats so precious! I love sign, I have been practicing it for some years now and have always anticipated teaching my future children signs. How do you go about doing that? How do you begin teaching, and helping them understand that everything has a sign?

Those are the two main reasons for signing with your baby. But it is also the third most used language in the United States (and fourth in all of North America). Why not teach your child a second language :-)
