Riverside War Dog Memorial

Uploaded by: 12sps
Video Description:
In partnership with the Vietnam Dog Handler Association, http://vdha.us/ and Jeff Bennett, on February 21, 2000, the War Dog Memorial was dedicated at March AFB Museum, in Riverside CA. Over 300 Vietnam, Korea and WWII dog handlers attended. The memorial is dedicated to all dog teams, the handlers and their dogs.
A second memorial is at Fort Benning GA, where all scout dogs were trained for the Vietnam War.
The video was produced by Tom Mitchell, who in 2000 was the VDHA chairman.

God bless the bravest of the brave. It's so sad that, in the end, they were considered expendable and were abandoned to cruel fates after serving so valiantly. But we knew their spirits and their hearts...brave warriors and loyal companions, one and all! We will remember and we will honor their memories. God bless all of you who knew them as companions and comrades in the field. From one who trained them...I did my best to help them hone their skills. You guys had the hard jobs. Thank you.

An absolutely totally heartfelt ceremony. The four-legged friends of so many are already with their handlers somewhere in heaven... and many dogs await to see their
handlers when their time is up on earth....
God Bless.

I was there for the dedication also. I was a "dog man" with the 37th IPSD in 1970-71. I would not be writing this today if it had not been for the two dogs, Tiger and King who walked point with me up on the Cambodia border as we kept so many G.I.s from walking into ambushes and booby traps. I'm not a guy who cries easily, but I was a blubbering mess by the time that ceremony ended. Farewell Tiger and King, I will never forget you both, all you gave, all you went through. JDB.
