OK, how about 90% of the time. Check out this video...Billy Sheehan - Bass Secrets + bass solo Mr Big - part 2... In this Sheehan himself says he plays "in the pocket 90% of the time". Everybody gets excited about solos and flash but the true worth of a Bass player is how he sets the groove. Sheehan does that very well.
Wooten, Miller, and ... ( 1 week ago by tbcass)
Wooten, Miller, and Clarke are Jazz players. I wouldn't expect them to be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Besides The R&R HoF is based on popularity, not greatness.

BB King and Buddy Guy are in there. Not quite rock are they ?
What about carlos santana ? Elvis Presly? not rock. and as for popularity, i dont know how many people you know who know who billy sheehan actually is.
And, id say that miller, wooten and clarke were more inclined to funk than jazz.
Sorry but you're ... ( 1 week ago by tbcass)
Sorry but you're way off base and very lacking in historical knowledge of R&R. King and Guy are Blues players. R&R is a direct off chute of the Blues with many of the Blues Players of the 40's and 50's playing what would later be called R&R when popularized by by Whites. King has had hit records. Elvis was one of the first White singers of R&R and sold millions of records. Elvis not R&R? You'd better stop and read up on R&R history before you post any more.

I'm sorry but you don't have any idea what you're talking about. There are Numerous Blues players inducted because R&R is a direct off shoot of the blues. After you said that Elvis and Santana weren't R&R I realized you didn't have a clue so I went to the R&R Hall of Fame web site and guess what? Billy Sheehan is NOT IN THE R&R HALL OF FAME so why are we even discussing this? I looked at the list over and over and neither he nor any group he was with are listed.

both very overrated ... ( 1 week ago by 5h1n10)
both very overrated bassists IMO
flea is decent but it's pretty ridiculous how people make him out to be the "best slap bassist" or whatever else.
and all sheehan can really do well, as he does in this video, is repeating the same musical phrases and wanking off to the same scales extremely fast. but i guess he's got some monster chops, so for that he sortof has my respect.

He's awesome but an 8 minute Bass solo? He's lucky people weren't throwing things at him. If you wanna do that be a guitarist. And I play Bass.

I agree with you on Flea. It makes me laugh when people talk about how great he is at slapping. These people need to see a video of Larry Graham or Louis Johnson.
I disagree about Billy. I have seen him play live many times. He is a solid pocket player but he is just known for all of the flashy crap.

I completely agree.
Billy demonstrated incredible technical skills but he showed absolutely no musicality that grabbed me on an emotional level. Note: I play bass too.

I disagree, you can achieve greatness with a bass solo as long as 8 minutes, just don't be Billy Sheehan. :P

Amen on the flea stuff.
it pisses me off how great people think he is, when he wouldnt even be around without people like Jaco Pastorius and Larry Graham.

are you retarded?
by the way, anything you guitarists can do on six strings, us bassists can do on four.

Minus Chords. Bass is a much more versatile instrument if you were to take time and think about it. We're not there just to look good. We're there to hold the band up and do some crazy funky shit.
