tblake, what fantasy world do you live in/ they banned assault weapons in california in the 80's, and gang crime tripled. any time guns laws are strengthened and enforced, only law abiding citizens are penalized. its a proven fact taht gun crime increases when guns are outlawed, as the criminals arent concerned with what the law says, and they dont turn in their guns

First, show me some evidence concerning the causal connection between the ban and the increase in crime. In NY in the 90s the ban resulted in a MASSIVE decrease in crime. Guns are not the driving factor of crime, the economy is. Guns just make the crimes more extreme.
Second, you just made up that bullshit about crime and guns, read about your hero Rudy Giuliani and his STRICT gun laws. Worked there.

As for your "proven fact," California crime rates hit a peak in 1993, dropped for the next seven years, then went up slightly under Bush.
You are 100% incorrect. The assault riffle ban hit in 1989. Crime rates in Cal plumeted startin in 1993.
