Probably a keyboard setting since no organ sound can be heard then. At 4:10 you see the keyboard player banging away...same sound.

I love the sound of the particular guitar Mark uses here. Can someone tell what type guitar he's using (here). My fave of the guitars that I've seen him use is the Gibson L5S (?), pictured on Caught in the Act. I know he loves the Parker now, but I'd love to see him pull that Gibson outta mothballs!!! I hope that there is at least one more archival live CD release of GFR, featuring more live stuff like this with Craig, as well as 1981-83 with bassist Dennis Bellinger.

I'm a big fan of Mel's bass playing. And Mark's singing. And the band in general. Met Mel in San Diego when they played Humphreys less than 10 yrs ago. I gave him a massage at a nail salon near there. We talked music, I got a pic, and he gave me a ticket to the concert!

That's a vintage US made guitar of the mid 60s from the Micro-Frets brand in Frederick, Maryland.
Mostly excellant and well thot out guitars, very in their time but ahead of most others, with calibrated roller nuts and some models were the first wireless guitars marketed. The M-F PUs were superb and Mark got some of his best sound/tone ever from this guitar.
Luther Perkins (Johnny Cash) and Carl Perkins were 2 of the very few to use these great guitars on stage or studio.

I totally agree, but Terry to me added some interesting controversy to the Grand Funk story. Rundgren didn't consider Knight a producer (my personal fave was Ienner). David K. Tedds who did the GFR remasters wrote an incredibly moving memoriam that can be found at the CREEM website. Knight lost his life defending his daughter. As for the Zappa GFR LP, I recently got a vintage '76 Circus with a not bad article. Zappa's quoted as saying "There's not one turkey track on the whole album."

Just a slight correction on my dates mentioned. The Micro-Frets Co. was in production from about 1970 to '74.
I was thinking of the Wurlitzer brand when I said the mid 60s.
