First of all. I am not a vocal coach. These tips and methods are things I have picked up from others over the years. This first part deals with basics and general tips. I hope it's useful to some of you :)

First of all, I want to say that this is a very good video. For someone who's not a vocal coach, it's very well done.
However, I don't really agree with your statement, "you don't need to take deep breaths, you can take a half breath." Obviously, you can take a half breath, but when you take a full breath it's easier to sing with power. Half breaths, furthermore, will usually leave the singer dizzy and singing becomes rather difficult.
Very well done otherwise.

...why is it that british people talk with a british accent, but sing without it?

For the same reason British people think we talk with an American accent and sing without it. Accents are affected mainly by 1)pronunciation of a letters 2) length that u hold a syllables and 3) accents on certain syllables in a word. When singing length of words (which have to be notes when singing) and accents on syllables are controlled by the song so only 1 of the 3 parts of an accent are present. this severely weakens the potency of an accent forcing us to look at word choice 4 nationality

The idea was not to get people to fill their lungs because if your lungs are full of air it can put pressure on the diaphragm and affect performance. Professionals will not be affacted so much because their diaphragm is developed, but it will affect those that haven't developed it :)

I think dcdude85 gave a pretty good account there. It is possible to hear accents in some popular music (like the proclaimers) because it's unlikely that they haven't trained their voice in a classic way. I think accents in songs are wonderful, and I would like to hear more of them :)
