We could argue that point, since the official language of Egypt is Arabic. But what can not be denied is that Egyptians were a part of the war that I was talking about in which the entire Middle-East including Egypt attacked Israel and lost horribly, showing that they can not do anything at all let alone fight.

i think you are both missing the point of what Edward Said is saying. His arguement is not about who won what war. It is about the language we use to observe, and the way in which the west imposes certain values with language.

The point is not to defend Islam or attack the west. it's meant to get a better and more scientific form of orientalism which is not based on 19th century race theories and the assumption that western culture is superior to other cultures.
